Holiday for schools and colleges, heavy rain expected

Monday has been declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the Chennai district. The announcement was made by Chennai District Collector E. Sundaravalli.
Educational institutions will be closed due to heavy rains expected. Private institutions began sending messages to parents through SMS and social media early Monday morning.
Possibility of heavy rain or a thunderstorm is in the forecast for the city today. Chennai saw heavy rain on Sunday that caused flooding in low lying areas and damage to trees and lamp posts in some parts of the city.
