Posted on: 31/Oct/2015 12:43:40 PM
Raids have been conducted across the city to stop the sale of sub standard fireworks from China. An official press release has said that firecrackers can be imported if a license has been issued by the ministry of commerce. However, no such license has been issued to any importer. The fireworks also harm the domestic industry. Not only  that, they are hazardous in nature and pose a danger to public’s safety and health.

More than 100 godowns were raided on Friday by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. The raids were conducted in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Trichy, Vijaywada, Madurai and Ludhiana. Officials seized around Rs. 2 crore worth of firecrackers.

In Chennai, teams have been keeping vigil at Koyambedu bus terminus and other bus stops. Inspection was carried out in Trichy. Although no seizure was made in Chennai, 23 boxes worth just Rs. 23,000 were seized in other parts of the State. The officials have requested the public to report illegal sales. Calls can be made to 0431-2410455, 2460582.
