North East Monsoon active in Tamil Nadu

North East Monsoon rains have commenced over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry yesterday. Rainfall occurred at many places over Coastal Tamil Nadu and a few places over Interior Tamil Nadu.
The monsoon activity is likely to intensify from Thursday with the Meteorological Department predicting moderate to heavy rains over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. On Wednesday, a low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast triggered rainfall over the State.
S.R. Ramanan, Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Department, said the weather system would bring in moderate rainfall over many places in coastal districts and few places in interior Tamil Nadu on Thursday,.
Moderate to rather heavy rain would occur at most places over Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari districts of Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Light to moderate rain would occur at a few places over the remaining districts of Tamil Nadu.
As far as Chennai is concerned the sky condition would be generally cloudy. Rain or thundershowers may occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperature would be around 32 and 25 deg Celsius respectively.
