Addition, Removal or Deletion in Voters List on the Go

Works to add names, make changes in names or address in voters list have begun by sending SMS alert to all the applicants.
The Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena said corrections in voters list have begun in September and got over on 24th. There were three exclusive campaigns conducted for the same and this benefitted 22.81 lakh applicants. On the whole, about 16.94 lakh individuals have sent in their application for making changes in voters list. Eleven applications are so far received from Indians who live in overseas nations.
1.76 lakh applications for removal of name, 2.69 lakh applications for change of ward, and 1.41 lakh new applications are so far received. Out of these, 7.50 lakh applicants have provided their mobile numbers.
All their details are fed in the computer system. Furthermore, their applications are also saved in our database as scanned copies. We are cross checking these and fine tuning the data available with us. These works are wrapped up in most districts. In Chennai, about 75.38% of these works are completed. The work status is updated to the applicants through SMS.
We cross check whether the name of voters is present in any other voters list in other wards. Following this, we prepare a check list. Our officials will then visit the voter`s home and cross check the details given in the voters list. A code will be sent as SMS to the voter. This code will be inquired by the official, said Sandeep Saxena.
An End to Unfound Names on Voters List
During each and every election, there are complaints that a voter had voted during the earlier election, but that this time, their name is removed from the list. A new software has been developed by the officials so as to mark an end to this routine compliant. With this software, officials will not be able to remove names of voters in random. They can remove a name only if they feed a reason for removal.
Hence, if a name is removed, we will be able to know the reason for removal, the name of official who has made the removal, and who insisted the move. This will largely reduce bulk removal of names. If such a name removal is made by an official, necessary action can be taken against him by knowing his details.
