Northeast monsoon to start today

Officials at the regional Meteorological Department in Chennai have confirmed that the northeast monsoon will commence on Wednesday. There has been heavy speculation on social media, especially Twitter and WhatsApp on the start of the rains in Chennai for the past few days.
The weathermen said, (Chennai) may experience heavy rains with thundershowers on Wednesday. Conditions remain favourable for the commencement of the northeast monsoon. They have also said that the monsoons will be normal this year.
Heavy rains may be the result of low pressure in the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lankan coast. Heavy rains are expected in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Pondicherry, and its adjoining areas. Chennai will experience cloudy skies. The maximum temperature on Wednesday will be 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum 25 degrees Celsius.
