Chennai and Trichy lead in Smart City Challenge

The Smart Cities Challenge in Tamil Nadu has two main contenders out of the 12 selected ones - Chennai and Tiruchirapalli. The 12 cities are Chennai, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Tiruppur, Salem, Vellore, Coimbatore, Madurai, Erode and Thoothukudi.
Cities with the highest comments on the mygov.in platform will get a Rs. 200 crore grant from the Central government. As on October 24, Chennai leads with 1601 comments, followed by Trichy with 1,093 comments. Coimbatore is a distant third with 323 comments.
The list of the first 20 cities will be released by the Centre in January 2016. The city with the least comments are Thoothukudi with 4 and Tirunelveli with 7. Madurai has 38 comments and Dindigul has 178.
