Tamil Nadu Government to install solar power roof tops in 10,000 houses

Posted on: 20/Oct/2015 11:54:36 AM
Tamil Nadu Government is making efforts to reduce people electricity bills by installing solar roof tops in 10,000 houses by end of next year.

Due to various reasons the world is getting warmer day by day. Power generated by coal and nuclear is the main reason for the global warming. In order to reduce this warming the Tamil Nadu Government is encouraging people to use solar power.

In 2012, the Tamil Nadu government had launched the solar energy policy, which called for the development of 1,000 Mw of utility-scale, rooftop and renewable energy certificate (REC) projects annually through 2015.

Accordingly The Tamilnadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), which is the renewable energy development arm of the State Government, pegs the cost of a 1 kW solar rooftop system at Rs. 1 lakh. The Government of India gives a subsidy of Rs. 30,000. As such, the investor needs to bring in only Rs. 50,000 (TN gives another Rs. 20,000).

Those of who are interested in this scheme should allot 100 sq feet on the rooftop and then register on www.teda.in/cis
