Public Service Centre for passport applications online at lower rates

The Regional Passport Office at Anna Salai, Chennai, has set up a Public Service Centre to facilitate passport applications online at lower rates.
Regional Passport Officer Mr. K. Balamurugan explained:
The number of applicants of passport who come for interview to get the passports has been increased from 2100 to 2550 per day.
The time duration to obtain prior permission for interview has been reduced from 20 days to 4 days.
A public service centre has been set up for the benefit of the public at the Passport head Office. This will facilitate online application of passport. A contract has been signed with Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV for this facility. 2 employees of Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV have been posted here for helping the public.
The public can visit this counter to obtain prior permission for interview for getting passports.
Relative lower rates have been fixed for using this service.
Payment through credit card will be Rs. 100/-. Payment by cash will be Rs. 155/-.
So, public can utilise the cheaper, faster, and simpler service to get their passports online.
