Ingredients:
- Moon Dal – 1 cup
- Carrot – 3 nos
- Onion – 2 nos
- Tomato – 2 nos
- Green or Red Chilli – 2 nos
- Garlic – 8 nos
- Turmeric Powder- ¼ spoon
- Sambar Powder – 1 ½ spoon
- Salt – as required
- Oil -5 spoon
- Mustard seed – ½ spoon
- Cumin Seed – ½ spoon
- Curry leaves – a few
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Coriander leaves – a few
Method:
- Soak moong dal for about ½ an hour and wash thoroughly.
- Finely chop the carrot, onion and tomato and keep separately.
- Heat oil in the pan and add curry leaves, garlic, green / red chilli and onion and sauté well.
- Then add tomato and sauté well until it shrinks and raw smell leaves.
- Then add carrot and fry well for about 2 minutes.
- Then add the drained moong dal and add salt, turmeric powder, sambar powder and add the required quantity of water and pressure cook for about 3 whistle.
- Open the lid and smash the dal using the ladle.
- Heat the pan with oil and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida for tempering and put it on top of it.
- Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves for garnishing.
- Hot Moong Dal – Idli & Pongal Sambar is ready to serve!
- This dish will go fine with Pongal, dosai and idli.
Note:
- We can also boil the moong dal and vegetables separately and can mix well finally while preparing this dish.
- The addition of vegetables is your choice; you can very well add either brinjal or potato or beans.
- This is a healthiest dish which is apt for morning breakfast to serve all the essential proteins throughout the day.
- As we add many vegetables, it will be tangy dish to attract children.
