Increasing number of social media and mobile phone stalkers

According to cybercrime division of Chennai city, there are nearly 50 complaints of cyber stalking, and most people come with complaints of stalking of social network sites or mobile phones. Interestingly, most of the victims do not prefer to take legal action against this. “We receive around two complaints every day. There was a significant increase in number of complaints last year,” said an official at the cybercrime division.

As always, the victims are mostly college girls or those working in software industry. “We also receive complaints from medical college students,” the official added. “Most of them, in fact, 99 per cent of them do not prefer taking actions.”

They also add that the division agrees not to take action when they are requested to do so. In rare cases, when we take it forward for investigation, we warn the stalkers seriously and leave them with excuse. But, when similar jobs are done by the suspect repeatedly, he would definitely be jailed.

As in most cases the suspects are known to victims, they are looked upon sympathetically and no action is taken. We, anyway target to punish them right at the first time, but refrain from doing it on the victim’s request.
