Chennai City is under Severe Check for Independence-Day

The Chennai city police have geared up ornate security measures considering Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Distinct safety arrangements including security checks and drills have been accomplished at the airport, railway stations and the Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu.

A total of 22,000 police personnel, counting the traffic police, are performing rigorous checks and squads, in about three shifts at 64 spots in the city. The bomb revealing crew and dog squad will be arranged in highly susceptible areas like Chennai Central and CMBT, said a senior police officer.

The city police have been ordered to work in linkage with the Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts police personnel. Also, the coastal squad has been strengthened using advanced vehicles.

The police department has been heading for lodges, mansions and guest houses to furnish daily reports and lists of guests residing at these places, and have also achieve checks to validate guest details.

Furthermore, additional police personnel have been appointed at the overseas consulates.

Traffic Deviations:

Considering the Independence Day celebrations to be held at Fort St. George on Friday, the city traffic police have made route alterations nearby Kamaraj Salai.
