Tangedco supplies electricity to over 2.45 crore consumers including 1.63 domestic consumers in the state. Of them, nearly 11.5 lakh consumers pay their bills online.
The practice now followed is that the Tangedco staff come every bi-monthly to the house or establishments and takes the meter readings and registers them in our EB cards. The customer in turn has to pay the EB charges before the due date and if he fails, he has to face penalty or even cut in the supply. Lots of people suffered because of this. In order to avoid this, the TANGEDO has introduced on line payment and also SMS facility to remind the customers about the payment due.
In order to utilize this facility, 83 Lakh customers out of 1373 Lakh customers in South Chennai have registered. 556 Lakh customers have registered in Chengalpet and 45 Lakh customers have registered in Kancheepuram. On the whole, one crore customers have registered their mobile numbers to get this facility.
