Jewellers booked for overcharging customers

The legal metrology department on Tuesday found that many jewellers in T Nagar and Mylapore are cheating customers. The department swooped down on 32 jewellery shops in T Nagar and Mylapore and booked 13 of them for violations of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
Officials said these jewellers were booked for keeping scales that didn`t conform to norms, overcharging, non-deduction of stone weight while weighing gold jewellery, and omitting specific details in the bill.
More raids would be conducted and action taken against errant traders.
