Is our drinking water really pure??

Is the canned drinking water that we buy really pure?

What are the solutions?

Water that contains up to 250-300 TDS (Totally Dissolved Solids) is fit for drinking. We can ourselves test the purity of the drinking water that we use.

The Central Pollution Board in Bengaluru sells drinking water test equipment at a price of Rs. 4000/-.  Once this instrument is dipped in the tested water, it shows the TDS value.

PTR Foundations, located at Eldams Road in Chennai, sells a smaller version at Rs. 350/-.

Drinking water test kits are available at King Institute and TNDWDB.

How about the drinking water sold in bottles?

When you buy a bottle of drinking water, check the number (from 1 to 7) printed in a triangle on the label of the bottle. Each number indicates the ingredient of manufacture.

1 – Polyethylene Terbathlate, 2 – High density ply-ethanol, 3 – poly-vinyl chloride, 4 – low density poly-ethanol, 5 – poly propylinol, 6 – polystyrene, 7 – plastic containers of longer life

Please ensure that you use the water bottle only for the number of days as per the number indicated in the bottle!
