Acceding to the request of cooperative union members who sell milk to them, Aavin has agreed to raise the purchase price.

Accordingly, the state government is in a position to be compelled to raise the price of Aavin milk.

The cooperative milk producers have been demanding a rise in the price of the milk sold by them. The private milk sellers have raised their purchase price by Rs. 5/- per litre. However, the government has so far been buying milk at a lower price. The cooperative milk sellers have been upset by this. They have declared that if the state government does not agree to the purchase price rise, they will stop supplying milk and sell the same to the private milk vendors.

Aavin has been buying at the rate of Rs. 23/- per litre and selling at Rs. 24/- per litre. At the same time, the private milk vendors buy at a higher price and selling the same at almost double the price earning huge profits. Meanwhile, Aavin continues to sell milk at the same lower price.

At last, Aavin has acceded to the long time demand of the cooperative milk producers and agreed to raise the buying price by Rs. 5/- per litre. Thus, it is in a position compelled to increase its selling price. The state government is about to decide on this issue.

The price increase of Rs. 5/- per litre is expected to be announced either by the mid of June or the 1st week of July.

The private milk vendors increased the prices by Rs. 2/- per litre during last December. Again, they raised the price by another Rs. 2/- per litre during February/March.
