Removal of Eco-Sensitive Zone in Guindy National Park

The state government forced to clear the eco-sensitive zone in the close vicinity of the cosseted forest in the Guindy National Park. 

These arrangements are mainly to provide the way to widen many institutions like IIT-Madras to craft many more building without any limitations.

On supporting the enhancement of many buildings within IIT, the State government has ordered for ‘NIL’ eco-sensitive buffer zone surrounded by the Guindy National Park (GNP).

Syed Muzammil Abbas, chief secretary of the forest department, has sent a letter to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) to mull over clearing out the eco-sensitive buffer zone surrounding GNP. This idea has been popped up, since the national park located in the central core of the Chennai city and many enhancement projects are anticipated to arise in the area neighboring this park, mentioned in the letter.

The scope of the eco-sensitive region has to be determined by the wildlife steward, an autonomous environmentalist and a revenue department official.

The state forest department has not considering the statement that both the Raj Bhavan and IIT that connect GNP and were imprinted out of the novel forest area which has the similar genus and environment. This propaganda requires appliance of mind," said T Murugavel, chief of Tamil Nadu Green Movement.  Black buck are a rare species and ought to be sheltered.
