On Monday, Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar released the random numbers for the applicants.

27,907 applicants are eligible for the single-window counselling for the MBBS/BDS seats, to be held later this month. A total of 28,053 candidates had submitted their forms, of which 146 were duplicates.

As of now, there are 2,555 seats in government-run medical colleges and 100 seats in the dental college. Of this, 15 per cent will be allotted to candidates under the all India quota.

The intake under the State quota this year will be 2,172 seats in medical colleges and 85 seats in the dental college.

Officials in the Directorate of Medical Education said the random numbers were generated to help arrive at ranks.

If candidates get the same marks, then their date of birth is taken for consideration, giving preference to older candidates. If in all these segments the candidates score equally, then the higher value computerised random number assigned is considered.

According to the officials, the first 10 digit random number will be arrived at and it will be treated as the first random number.

The computer will generate such numbers for all applicants. Candidates may view their random numbers by registering their application registration number on the websiteswww.tn.health.organdwww.tn.gov.in.

The officials said the rank list would be released as soon as the revaluation and re-totalling marks were received. As of now, the selection committee said it hoped to release the rank list on June 12 and counselling was tentatively slated for June18.
