Tamil Nadu State Government fixes salary of government drivers between Rs.4000 & 6000

The Tamil Nadu State government has fixed the salaries of drivers of various departments between Rs.4000 & 6000 a month. A few departments had earlier fixed the salary between 5,000 and 9,000.
Following petitions filed in the Madras high court and the Supreme Court, the anomaly was corrected and a final order was issued by finance secretary K Shanmugam on Wednesday. On November 18, 2013, the Madras high court dismissed the pleas filed by government drivers, seeking higher salaries. The order was issued based on this judgment, said the finance secretary.
