Supreme Court bans bull-fighting in Tamil Nadu!

Posted on: 07/May/2014 2:58:28 PM
The Supreme Court has banned the bull-fights conducted in Tamil Nadu.  The main observation is that the bulls are subjected a lot of cruelty and hardship.

Bull-fighting, known as ‘jallikkattu’ in Tamil Nadu, has been in practice over hundreds of years.

The SPCA (Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) & Blue Cross Association appealed to stop this. Considering this appeal, the Supreme Court has given the order to ban bull-fight.

The plea from the government of Tamil Nadu that it is a long-time tradition was rejected. Another appeal that the bulls are NOT subjected to any cruelty was also rejected.

Apart from the state government of Tamil Nadu, several political parties have also been supporting bull-fight.

However, following the ruling of Supreme Court banning bull-fights, there are no chances of resuming bull-fights in Tamil Nadu.
