The tradition of having a darshan of Lord Arunchaleswarar and His consort Goddess Unnamulai Ambikai is very special. Equally special is undertaking Girivalam, walking by foot around the bottom of the temple on the day of Pournami or Poornima (Full Moon Day) around the mountain of Tiruvannamalai.

By meditating on Lord Arunchaleswarar while undertaking this Girivalam, the devotee gains physical and mental health.

As there is a tradition of praying to the mountain itself as a representative of Lord Arunchaleswarar or Lord Siva, lakhs of devotees undertake the Girivalam on the days of the Full Moon around this mountain called `Annamalai` by the ardent devotees.

The Full Moon Day (Pournami or Poornima) in the Tamil Calendar Month of Panguni falls today (Wednesday, 5th April), commencing at 10.16 AM and concluding at 10.56 AM tomorrow (Thursday, 6th April).

The administration of the Tiruvannamalai temple has announced that devotees can undertake Girivalam during the above period.

On this occasion, the Tiruvannamalai District Administration has made special arrangements to provide all basic facilities to the devotees undertaking Girivalam.
