If it was the Coronavirus infection pandemic that has worried the health department officials in the past, now increasing dengue cases has been worrying them!!
There were 3258 dengue cases identified in the last 8 months across the State of Tamil Nadu. After the intermittent rains in several districts in TN, more dengue cases have been reported. Now, the health department has joined hands with the local bodies and have increased the mosquito control measures by deploying 17000 odd domestic breeding checkers or DBC.
Till 28th of August 2022, TN has reported 3528 dengue cases and this was as per the data from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine or DPH. In 2021, across the state there were 6039 cases.
The state health minister Mr. M. Subramanian revealed that the dengue is under control and precautionary steps have been taken. He added that after the intermittent rains the mosquito breeding became more and preventive measures have been taken in Tamil Nadu. He was hopeful of controlling the dengue cases in the state.
Dr. T.S. Selvavinayagam, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine spoke about how controlling the dengue would not be an issue this time as all the surveillance mechanisms have been in place. It is learnt that in the month of January 2022 TN reported the highest number of dengue cases of 980. In February there were 684 dengue cases and in March 419 dengue cases.
The months of April & May saw a marginal drop in the dengue fever cases and in June there were 256 cases and in July there were 304 cases. As many as 413 dengue cases were reported in August.
The number of samples that were tested for dengue in 2022 was more when compared to the samples tested in the previous years. In 2022, as many as 135969 samples were tested.
