The weather has become dry now in Chennai and this has made the lives of the residents better now. Sounds confusing right!!

Fact is the dry weather has reduced the air pollution now in Chennai (after 2 weeks of time) and the Chennaites are able to breathe much easier now as the air pollution levels are within the permissible limit. By this, the lives of Chennai residents have become better now. The movement of the vehicles has remained the same only in the city. Lower levels of harmful gases (from vehicles and power plants etc) were recorded in many parts belonging to Chennai and this was according to data from CPCB or Central Pollution Control Board.

On Tuesday, 14th June 2022, the air pollution level of PM2.5 in Alandur recorded 59microgm per cubic metre, Kodungaiyur recorded 51microgm per cubic metre, Manali 47, Velachery 45, Arumbakkam 42, Royapuram 26 and Perungudi 20.

The pollution levels remained satisfactory in the city of Chennai despite the fact that the maximum temperatures were above 40 degrees Celsius in the first week in June.

As per the data it was clear that the highest pollution levels were recorded at Alandur 79 micrograms per cubic metres followed by Arumbakkqm with 40 micrograms per cubic metres. Places in north Chennai like Kodaungaiyur and Manali recorded 26 micrograms per cubic metres and 25 micrograms per cubic metres respectively.

In the month of May there was a change in the wind pattern is known. This has increased the pollution levels in Chennai city. The permissible limit is 60micrograms per cubic metres but many places in Chennai in May recorded more than this value.

As per a senior officer belonging to TNPCB increase in the maximum temperatures has led to increase in the air pollution levels in Chennai. The dry weather has reduced the dusty winds
