In normal circumstances, Chennai would have been associated with hot bright sunshine and humid weather. Things have changed and in the last 5 days the city of Chennai received very heavy rains and there was very little sunshine. Chennais climate has become very cool now.
On Friday, Chennai residents woke up with sunshine after 5 long days and it brought huge happiness on their faces. It must be taken into account that the depression that was responsible for havoc turned into a low pressure area and moved over north interior Tamil Nadu.
In the heavy rains in the last 5 days, 18 persons have died across Tamil Nadu and this as mentioned by Mr. K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, minister for revenue. He added that by Saturday normalcy would be restored in the city of Chennai.
It seems that the happiness of bright sunshine would be short-lived for the Chennai residents. The reason for that was another low pressure has been forming over the Andaman Sea and it would turn into deep depression. This was according to the meteorological department.
Districts such as Vellore, Ranipet, Thirupathur, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Kanniyakumari, Kallakurichi, Dindigul, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Coimbatore, Nilgris, Theni, Perambalur, Trichy, Madurai, Virudhunagar and Tenkasi would have rainfall. On 14th November, districts like Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur might get heavy rains. There would be light to moderate rains in Chennai city for the next 2 days. Out of a total 534 inundated places in Chennai, water has been drained from 204 places till now. Point to be noted is that 5 subways are being drained.
The revenue minister later mentioned about the release of water from the reservoirs that has been regulated and how it has prevented the flooding of water courses. He concluded that the TN government had learnt lessons and it would sort out the issues.
