The news that has come out is deemed universities in the state of Tamil Nadu have started preparations for accommodating more students now.

Point is that these deemed universities would be reopening newt week. At present, just one student per room would be allowed in the hostel as per the Coronavirus pandemic quarantine norms and now few institutions want TN to consider this rule. Many institutions are expecting more number of hostel students and they have now split hostel mess, and have moved canteens to open spaces.

The Internet would be provided at hostel rooms so that the students would be able to attend online classes as they waited out the period of quarantine. It is now said that schedules for online classes, physical classes and allowing students in turns are being considered.

Beginning from 22nd of February 2021, SRM Institute of Science and Technology would reopen for the students in a phased manner. This was revealed by Mr. S. Ponnuswamy, register (in-charge), SRMIST, Kattankulathur. It is well known that this campus at Kattankulathur is amongst the largest.

From 24th February, SASTRA would begin physical classes for the students belonging to the first year. This was according to Mr. S. Vaidhyasubramaniam, vice-chancellor of SASTRA. He added that the first year students would have optional doubt clarification and lab exposure sessions. Students requiring quarantine could stay in the hostels. Beginning from 8th March, examinations for the first semester students would be conducted.

It is learnt that after the first semester exams the second semester classes would be there and it would go on till May month. There would be online classes for the students belonging to other years.

The vice-chancellor of SASTRA made it clear that after the first year students leave the campus students of second, third and final year would be attending practical classes and examinations.

It was brought out by Mr. Isari K. Ganesh, chancellor of Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies or VISTAS, physical classes have started for the students belonging to the third year. He highlighted that just 50% of the students have been called back and rotation system would be followed. Important piece of information is that the deemed universities have urged UGC to revise its guidelines to allow the hostels at 50percrent capacity. Truth is that 1student per hostel room would make it difficult to complete the practicals and examinations for the students on correct time.
