There is a sudden influx now in the southern suburbs of Chennai and this has created fears on the faces of many people in the neighborhoods. The reason for this is due to many Chennai city residents fleeing to southern suburbs. They are either moving in with their relatives or taking houses on rent. The neighborhood people are alerting the police as well as revenue department authorities about this sudden influx.
It is revealed that law enforcers in places off GST Road, OMR, and ECR outside the jurisdiction of Greater Chennai police have been getting many calls from the residents and they want these visitors to be sent back to contain the spread of Coronavirus infection. Urapakkam based residents` welfare association has orally instructed the members not to entertain families from Chennai in their houses. Over the past 2 weeks, another resident welfare association from Tiruporur has been keeping its fingers crossed over new tenants.
According to Mr. T. K Raman, secretary of Ceedeeyes Chennaipattinam Residents Welfare Association, Nellikuppam near Tiruporur off OMR it was clear that 10 to 15 new families have moved on to their apartment complex in the last 2 weeks. The previous locations of the new tenants were not available and this has caused concern.
For the purpose of taking appropriate action against these new tenants, Tiruporur based block health supervisor has been approached to visit the complex that has got 900 units. There are many residents associations that are against the entry of outsiders. It must be noted that in the Vandalur- Kelambakkam High Road, members of a resident association did not allow a health officer inside their complex initially. He was later allowed after the intervention of the police.
Important information is 6 police stations in the OMR, ECR get atleast one call every day regarding a new resident settling down in their locality.
