Coronavirus infection is now spreading very fast, additional 1100 beds in Chennai

Coronavirus spreading at lightning speed in the state of Tamil Nadu has been worrying many now.

On Tuesday, 9th June 2020, health minister Mr. C. Vijayabaskar had mentioned that soon there would be 1100 more hospital beds for the Corona virus-infected patients in the worst-hit Chennai city.

It must be noted that on Tuesday as many as 1685 fresh persons tested positive for Coronavirus and  Chennai had fresh 1242 Corona positive cases. By this, the total number of Coronavirus affected persons in TN went to 34, 914.

Point is there were 36 persons with Coronavirus and these have come from other states or from foreign nations. As many as21 have breathed their last on Tuesday and this was the highest single-day death in TN till now.

The state health minister then explained about the ready availability of 500 beds at the newly built Institute of Ageing inside the King Institute of Preventive Medicine. He shed light on the availability of oxygen plus ventilators to treat critically ill patients. Information is soon MBBS doctors, specialists plus other paramedical staff would be posted here. For the sake of quarantining the vulnerable and elder persons, this facility would be utilized.

Chennai Port hospital would have 300 beds for the treatment of Corona patients and 300 beds would also be available at the old block of Egmore based Government Ophthalmic Hospital. The minister pointed out that the TN state had increased the number of testing and by the June month-end TN would witness 1.3 lakh Coronavirus cases. This was as per the predictions by many agencies. Truth is by the end of the day as many as 16279 persons in TN including 12570 in Chennai were treated for Corona infection.

On Tuesday, Chennai neighbors like Chengalpet with 158 cases, Tiruvallur with 90 cases, and Kancheepuram with 32 cases have contributed to a total of 280 cases. It was later mentioned by the Directorate of Public Health that less than 5 persons in the government hospitals were on ventilators. This data is not available in the public domain.
