Posted on: 09/Jun/2020 10:41:45 AM
Those persons above the age of 60, pregnant women and those with co-morbid conditions like hypertension, diabetes, heart diseases etc are vulnerable to Coronavirus infection are well known.

Concentrating on these above said persons and protecting them against Corona issue has been the major concern for the TN state government.

It must be noted that the health department had prevention, management and treatment plans to be rolled out separately for those above and below 40 on Monday. Point is the handbook for the doctors would be out in a day or in 2days.

By this, there would be a good standard of care. This was as per Beela Rajesh, health secretary. She spoke about how those above the age of 60 were vulnerable and how those above 40 were at risk as a large number of persons had passed away.

There are many above the age of 40 with issues like BP, Diabetes etc and just similar to the registry of pregnant women, registries for elderly persons with diabet4es, BP, heart diseases etc have been set up by the state. It was then explained by Mr. Senthil Raj, National Health Missions TN project director that the existing registry for pregnant women, persons with HIV/AIDS, TB and cancer has details of medical status and drugs consumed

As per the joint commissioner (health), Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy, GCC had collected information through door-to-door surveillance that started in the month of April 2020. He highlighted that the GCC had decided that it would turn it into a Chennai public health portal and the doctors would be updating some non-communicable diseases also.

To get details about the list of those at risk for 12 specialities, the state has asked other corporations and it is almost over now. This was as per the health secretary.

Important piece of information is atleast 84 % of those who had succumbed to Corona virus issue had co-morbid conditions in them. The rate of recoveries improved when co-morbid conditions like BP and diabetes were kept under control.

Senior epidemiologist Dr. Jayaprakash Muliyil expressed his views. He spoke about how Corona virus has been present everywhere and how when there were relaxations then the virus would spread faster.
