Airways are heavily affected by the onset of the raging coronavirus pandemic!

Posted on: 18/Apr/2020 10:51:42 PM
Both domestic and international flights have been canceled and the aircraft remain idle!

With the extended 2nd Phase of lockdown imposition, set to conclude on 3rd May, airline companies plan to commence flight services thereafter.

As per the present plans, check-in for the flight will commence 3 hours before the scheduled flight time and conclude before 1 hour.

The passengers need to take a print of their boarding passes from their houses! Or else, they can download on their mobiles!

As social distancing must be observed even in the flight, it has been decided by the airline companies to keep the alternate seats unoccupied!

Thus, the flight CANNOT BE booked IN FULL! For example, an aircraft with 72 seats will have only 36 passengers allowing for social distancing!

Similarly, in the A320 aircraft, only 120 seats will be booked! This means the seat next to each passenger will remain unoccupied!

Some Airline Companies have informed that they are set to follow this. Others are still planning.

Thus, social distancing is MANDATOR in the flight seats as well as the terminus.

Also, it is gathered that the passengers will be requested to restrict/avoid the usage of the toilets in the aircraft.

In this regard, it is observed by the Airline companies:
  • As per the government guidelines, social distancing is mandatory to prevent the coronavirus from spreading. Hence, there is a severe constraint of keeping half-the-seats empty!
  • Airline Companies have been already facing severe losses. As half seats will be empty, they have no other option except to increase the flight fares! In order to avoid the passengers crowding, the timings of the flights are also being changed. Accordingly, arrangements are to be set up, ensuring the social distancing among the boarding passengers!
  • For the aspect of social distancing, only 50% of seats will be booked for a flight.
  • The flight departure timings are to be changed in order to avoid passengers crowding.
  • Only 50%ofthe services will operate! For example, out of the 250flights scheduled from the Chennai Metro City, 50% will be reduced!
  • As the flight services are reduced and also timings changed, the prospects of cancellation of flight tickets are quite high!
  • As only half the seats are booked, the airline companies need to increase the flight fare in order to reduce the loss incurred in this manner.
  • Apart from the flight passengers, there are prospects even fr the train passengers to cancel their booking!
  • Apart from a reduction in the number of trains opererated, there are prospects of long-distance trains with minimal stops on the routes. Also, unreserved compartments will not be there.
  • It is gathered that social distancing may have to be followed even in the train journeys! Reviews are being done on this aspect!
