Annual book fair to get Rs 75 lakhs from the TN state government

There is now an increase in the footfall at the annual book fair in Chennai. This shows that many people are now having interest to know about various books.

The state government would give an amount of Rs 75 lakhs to BAPASI or Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India for conducting annual book fair from next year.

On Thursday, 9th January 2019, 43rd Chennai book fair was inaugurated at YMCA grounds in Nandanam, Chennai. The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami became cynosure of many eyes when he inaugurated this book fair. He was happy about the increase in the footfalls at the book fair and spoke about how more people were showing interest in the books.

He revealed that books were the best companions of the people and he wanted the present generation youngsters to read many books. Chief minster mentioned that every household must encourage reading of books and have collection of books. Important information is chief minister also opened �Keeladi Eeradi� and exhibition showcasing artefacts excavated from Keeladi and unveiled a sand sculpture of Tiruvalluvar created by famous Odisha based sand artist Mr. Sudarsan Patnaik. This 3000 sqft exhibition has been organised in association with the department of archaeology.

It is known that publishers and authors play an important role in the book development and their works were recognized. Awards were presented to them by chief minister of TN. Other important personalities who made their presence felt at the inaugural function were Mr. Shanmugam, president of BAPASI and Mr. S.K. Murugan, secretary.

This book fair would be for 13 days and would be opened on the weekdays between 3 pm and 9 pm. In the holidays, it would be opened between 11 am to 9 pm. For the book fair goers, BAPASI had set up drinking water facilities and toilet facilities etc.
