Crackers to have gone ‘green’ now!! Sound’s amazing right!!

On 27th October 2019, the festival of lights or Deepavali would be celebrated and people are gearing up for this special day.

The ‘green’ crackers have arrived in Chennai for this Deepavali. It must be noted that these green crackers are regarded as an alternative to the old highly polluting crackers. Important information collected is the lack of variety plus high prices and less production have hampered the cracker’s sale.

The vendors were worried about the low sale of these green crackers in Chennai. It is revealed that the rains and new fire safety regulations have been making the lives of many vendors difficult. It has been mentioned by a retailer of Standard Fireworks at Parrys, Chennai that the prices of the crackers have gone up by 10% for all crackers in 2019. He expressed his unhappiness regarding the sales of the crackers and said so far just 2 to 3 % of crackers was sold.

It was later brought out by the vendors that there are many varieties of crackers sold at present but few varieties have ‘green’ colour label (CSIR-NEERI) on them. These green colour labelled crackers have come up with the ‘green cracker’ concept is known. Older varieties of crackers were made using barium nitrate and green crackers were made using potassium nitrate and zeolite.

It has been mentioned by NEERI that the new green crackers would produce the sound of 125 decibels whereas the old crackers produced a sound of 160 decibels. The superb information is the particulate matter would be 30% less with these green crackers.

The retailer of Standard Fireworks in Parry’s spoke about how only flower pots and sparklers were green crackers having a green label and QR code of CSIR-NEERI. He added that the rest of the crackers have QR codes with details of chemical compounds prescribed by the Supreme Court.

It must be taken into account that the fire safety regulations have restricted the vendors not to sell crackers by raising stalls on the roadsides or in public places. So less number of people only would be selling crackers this time.
