Footpaths are very important and they are meant only for the pedestrians or those who walk. The sensational piece of news that has come out is corporation of Chennai had decided to collect a fine of Rs 80 per hour for the cars parked on the footpaths and fine of Rs 20 per hour would be collected for motorcycles parked on the footpaths. From next week onwards parking management system would be implemented in Chennai.
In the initial stage the parking management system would begin its operations in areas like Besant Nagar, Anna Nagar, Purasawalkam and Marina Beach belonging to the Chennai city. It would be covering 4200 parking slots. The point is in the first phase this parking management system would be expanded to cover 12000 parking spaces in different parts of Chennai city.
An official expressed his thoughts about this upcoming parking management system. He spoke about how the civic body would collect penalty amount from those who park their vehicles in no-parking zones. He revealed that the fine would be Rs 160 per hour for parking on footpath along a road in premium parking areas. The official explained how the violators would be identified by the parking management system and the total time of parking in the no-parking areas would also be found out.
Paying fines would be compulsory for the violators and they cannot escape without paying their fines. This was also confirmed by the official. The important news collected was cameras have been installed in all the localities by the civic body to identify the violators. In many posh residential as well as commercial neighbourhoods, the civic body has begun identifying premium parking spaces along the roads.
The information gathered was once the system starts functioning then the commuters who park their vehicles along such roads would have to pay 100 percent higher charges. It is now revealed that the premium parking charges would be Rs 40 per hour in those places and Rs 20 per hour would be the normal parking charges. As per an official it is clear that Khader Nawaz Khan Road would be the first road to have premium parking slots.
