For the passengers who have booked RAC train tickets (Reservation Against Cancellation), a new facility is being introduced from tomorrow (Tuesday, 1st January) with a new device to be made available to TTEs (Train Ticket Examiners).
On the official website of IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation), around 70% tickets are booked on normal days and around 75% tickets are booked during the festivals and other holidays.
While booking the tickets, those who could not get the reservation would be on RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) or on the Waiting List. On the basis of the last-moment cancellation of some reserved train tickets,
These would be allotted on priority to the RAC and the Waiting List passengers.
The Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) will check the reservation details from the list available with him/her. It takes some time to establish the number of passengers who did not turn up for the journey and then allot these tickets.
A new device, called Hand-held Terminal, is being provided to TTEs to facilitate immediate access to the details of last-moment cancellations.
The details of the last-moment cancellations will be displayed on this device. So, it would be possible to allot these cancelled tickets on the priority basis to the passengers on the RAC or Waiting List. Further, it is also possible to make reservations on these cancelled tickets.
The 1st Phase of this new system is set to be implemented from tomorrow (1st January, Tuesday) in the Southern Railway, for all the Express Trains departing from the Chennai Central Railway Station.
The event of providing the TTEs with the Hand-held Devices is being organised today (Monday, 31st December) at the Chennai Central Railway Station.
