The news that poor server quality of Greater Chennai Corporation has hit the hand held devices of the tax collectors and slowed down tax collections has been the topic for discussion for many now.

As a result of this poor server quality both property tax payers as well as tax collectors are facing problems now.

According to a Chennai Corporation source it is now clear that intermittent failure in the server connection is an issue and this has come in the way of these tax collectors. These tax collectors are now finding it difficult to do door-to-door collection of taxes. It is worthy to note that the tax collectors have been finding difficulty in taking the printouts of invoices. The plight of the tax payers is also worse as these tax payers have to wait for long periods of time due to middling internet connection at the counters.

More than 150 handheld devices have been provided by the Greater Chennai Corporation to the tax collectors in the year 2015 is known. It is now brought out that these hand held devices have been functioning well till now and the issue regarding connection failure has been taking place in the last 5 or 6 days only.

When compared to 25 bills on the normal days, during March end as many as 50 bills would be generated by the tax collectors. A tax collector expressed his thoughts and said the failure of hand held devices would lower the total tax collection. He also spoke about the financial year that would end on Saturday, 31st of March 2018.

The top officials belonging to Rippon buildings are not showing any interest in attending this problem and this was confirmed by the tax collector. The EDP Cell is responsible for attending this problem but the officials belonging to this cell are directing the tax collectors to try again and this was also later confirmed by a tax collector.

Nearly Rs 680 crores amount have been collected till Wednesday, 28th March by the civic body and target of Rs 725 crores would not be possible if the issue doesnt get corrected. This was later confirmed by the Chennai Corporation revenue officials.
