The metro rail will be providing commuters with bicycles. This is done as a move to reduce traffic and pollution. However, for the feeder service to get set for the list mile connectivity, the passengers need to wait.
Tenders to procure bicycles at all these 7 underground stations is announced. This will be open on Sunday. As per the call for tender, 8 bicycles for men and 2 for women are to be procured. Within 2 weeks from the date of getting the purchase order, the contractors ought to deliver them to the CMRL. Those who need to get the bicycle should pay a refundable deposit.
CMRL officials said this idea to rent out bicycles to the commuters is for improving patronage, as they can make use of it to reach neighborhood regardless of the availability of public transport.
During the starting of this year, a pilot plan was launched to facilitate commuters with renting out bicycles for a refundable deposit of Rs 3,000.
These cycles are available for free of rent. They can either take bicycle or return on the very same day or they can also use it for more than one or two days. While returning the cycle, the deposit amount will be refunded. Regular commuters can largely benefit out of it.
