Central government bans sales of 350 medicines including some antibiotics

The central government`s Ministry of Health has suddenly banned the sales of some 350 medicines including certain antibiotics.

Central government has strictly adopted the policy of Drug Price Control.

As per this policy, the drugs/medicines most used by common public have been enlisted in the essential list and their prices have been put under control.

Prices of over 700 medicines have been put under control.

As the Wholesale Price Index of medicines and drugs have fallen to an unprecedented low during January to December 2015, the pharmaceutical companies have decided to reduce the prices of medicines by 4 percent.

Meanwhile, the central government has banned the sales of some 350 items including the popularly used pain-killers and antibiotics.

This measure has been taken from the safety considerations.

The Ministry of Health has sent a circular dated 12th March regarding this. It has stated that the manufacture, sales, and distribution of the 350 medicines is banned with immediate effect.

Most of the 350 items are made from more than one medicinal ingredient. Some of them are available as medicines with singular medicinal ingredient. .

In the circular, it is mentioned that the 350 medicines have been proved to be harmful to human health. On the other hand medicines without any side-effects are also available in the market.

Because of this sudden ban on 350 medicines, it has been estimated that a loss of Rs. 3800 Crores will be incurred in the medicine trading commerce. The banned 350 items contribute to 4 percent of the total sales.

It has been gathered that the affected pharmaceutical companies are planning legal action against this ban.
