Solar eclipse on 13th September

Posted on: 11/Sep/2015 3:13:28 PM
On 13th of September, Sunday, a solar eclipse will be clearly seen when viewed from Indian Ocean, Antarctica and Southern Africa.

This will be the third of the total four solar/lunar eclipse in 2015. This eclipse can be clearly seen from urban area from Cape Town, South Africa. Nearly 30 percent of the sun will be covered by Moon by this time.

The eclipse will start at 6.49 am (local time) when both the sun and moon will start raising at Cape Town. The peak of the eclipse can be seen at 7.43 am and it will get over around 8.50 am.

This will be very much visible for the entire South Africa and southern parts of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, and Madagascar. This can also be seen from Indian ocean and Antarctica.

How to view?

The solar eclipse can be best seen through a filter that is exclusively made for viewing the sun. These filters are sold by stores that are specialized in telescopes. Before the eclipse, the will prevail eclipse shade. This can also be seen using No 14 welder`s glass. However, the No 12 welder`s glass that is found sold in hardware stores cannot be useful in viewing the eclipse, as it is only meant for protecting eyes from extremely bright lights. It doesn`t offer protection from the sun.

Don`t have the filter? What to do?

If you do not own a filter to view the eclipse, you may use a pinhole camera for the same. Take a cardboard and make a hole of about a millimeter in it with a pin. You may also choose to view through pinholes that are naturally available on leaves, trees, etc.

Caution:

The eclipse should never be seen with naked eyes, even if you wear sunglass as it will directly affect your eyes.
