It may be frustrating to add solar panels to your home as it is often tough to know whether your roof top receives enough sunlight to reap good returns out of your investment.
However Google maps has got a satellite, navigation and sunlight data for each and every property in the world. This will identify the rays that hit your crib every day. Hence, Sunroof is being launched which is a database of the total amount of solar energy that hits each and every building present in a city. This will help people to know whether the solar panel set up will be worth it. This Sunroof is intended as a treasure map for all the green energy projects proposed for the future.
In the initial stages, this Project Sunroof will be made available with Boston, San Francisco and Fresno. If this becomes a hit, Google will roll out this service to the remaining parts of the country and across the world too. The total possible amount of energy you may save will be indicated to you once your address is mentioned.
This was tested on Aol`s building present in San Francisco. It gave a result that usable sunlight was received for 1840 hours per year. Roughly, there is an available space of 15,641 square feet which can be used for installation of solar panels. With this, they were able to save up to $14,000 if the hardware is leased or $24,000 if the hardware is purchased entirely. So, those belonging to these areas will now find it easy. They can seek help from Google to know how much they can save out of setting up the solar panel.
