In a key move to ensure transparency, the Election Commission of India has appointed 234 IAS officers from outside states as observers to monitor vote counting across all constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

The vote counting is scheduled to take place on May 4 at 8 AM, following the single-phase polling held on April 23, which recorded an impressive 85.15% voter turnout.

Key Highlights:

- 234 IAS officers appointed as observers (one per constituency)
- Observers must reach assigned constituencies before May 2
- Counting begins at 8 AM with postal ballots
- EVM vote counting starts at 8:30 AM
- First round results expected from 9 AM onwards

A total of 75,064 EVMs used across polling booths are currently secured in 62 counting centers under tight security, including central forces and state police protection.

Strict Monitoring & Security Measures

The Election Commission of India has mandated that:

- Each round of counting results will be released only after observer approval and signature

- District election officers must conduct regular inspections

- CCTV surveillance and barricading arrangements are in place

- Nearly 1 lakh staff are deployed and trained for counting duties

Observers will play a crucial role in ensuring fair counting, issuing instructions when required, and validating final results before official announcement.

Transparent Counting Process

- Postal ballots counted first
- Multiple counting tables (14 to 28 depending on constituency size)
- Continuous monitoring by observers
- Final results declared only after observer verification

This step reinforces the commitment to a free, fair, and transparent election process in Tamil Nadu.
