The Union Railway Ministry has announced a revision in the basic fare for passenger train services, effective July 1, 2025. According to a directive issued by Praveen Kumar, Director (Passenger Marketing – Coordination), Railway Board, the fare changes will apply only to non-suburban train services.
Key Highlights of the Fare Revision:
No Change in fares for:
- Suburban (single journey) tickets
- Season tickets (both suburban and non-suburban)
Fare Hike for Non-Suburban Categories:
Second Class (Ordinary, Sleeper, First Class):
- Increase of half a paisa per passenger/km
- No increase for distances up to 500 km
- Increase of ₹5 for 501–1,500 km, ₹10 for 1,501–2,500 km, and ₹15 for 2,501–3,000 km
AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, AC First Class:
- Increase of 2 paisa per passenger/km
- Mail/Express (Non-AC Classes):
- Hike of 1 paisa per passenger/km
Premium Trains Affected:
The revised fares also apply to trains like Tejas, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatiman, Antyodaya, Garib Rath, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, and services including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches.
No Change in:
- Reservation fees
- Superfast surcharges
Important Note:
- Tickets already booked before July 1 will not be affected.
- Any new tickets booked by TTEs or at stations on or after July 1 will be charged at the revised rates.
This rationalisation is part of the Railway Ministry`s periodic fare review mechanism to ensure sustainability and quality service delivery.
