To conduct medical check up camps across Tamil Nadu, funds have been allotted now under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme. This is now making news.
It was mentioned in the GO issued by public welfare secretary Mr. P. Senthilkumar that the minister of public health has announced in LA that high level medical check-up camps would be conducted in TN at a cost of Rs 13.58 cr.
The Public Health dept would be conducting as many as 1256 medical camps across TN every year. The medical service camps would be conducted on Saturdays mostly or on suitable days.
Majority of the population is present in rural areas, slums, tribal areas etc and these medical check up camps would be conducted in these places.
It is revealed that in these medical camps complete physical examination that includes sugar levels, BP, X-ray, ECG and, Echo etc would be carried out on the public. Moreover, tests for TB, Cancer and leprosy etc would also be conducted. The camps would also feature 15 highly specialised medical consultations.
At Rs 75000 per medical camp, the annual cost of 1256 medical camps would be Rs 13.58 cr. Information gathered is that Rs 9.42 crores would be received under the National Health Scheme and from the Comprehensive Insurance Scheme Funds of the chief minister.
For the procurement of testing equipment as well as medicines etc, the remaining Rs 4.15 cr would be provided from the TN state fund. It is now said that the approval for allotment of funds is being provided under the appropriate rules.
