The health department has announced that the number of patients visiting government hospitals or GH for treatment has increased by 62.4percent due to the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme.
In 2021 this scheme was launched to reduce the impact of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure etc in TN. Under this superb scheme, as many as 10969 female health volunteers, 463 preventive care nurses, 463 physiotherapists have been visiting the homes of patients to provide treatments.
How do these health volunteers/nurses/physiotherapists help the patients?
It must be noted that the above said persons provide help to many patients by giving them medicines for BP, diabetes etc. They provide physiotherapy to the patients and they also provide dialysis bags for continuous dialysis patients plus diagnose birth defects in the kids and provide treatment etc.
It is learnt that under this superb health scheme of TN government 2.25cr beneficiaries have been receiving first time treatment. Follow up medical services have been provided to 4.44cr patients.
It is now revealed that under the Makkai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme many patients who were undergoing treatments for their high BP and diabetes etc in many private hospitals have been visiting the govt hospitals in TN.
According to Dt. T, Selvavinayagam, director, Public Health Dept it was clear that since the launch of MTM scheme TN govt has spent about Rs 721 cr till now. New patients have been identified and they have been prevented from getting diseases. He added that those patients who used to spend Rs 3000 per month on their medical expenses in private hospitals have started to visit GH for their treatment.
In this scenario, from 45.5%, the number of patients with high BP visiting GH for treatment has increased to 62.4% now. In the same manner from 33.4% the number of diabetes patients visiting GH has increased to 54.1percent now.
