Vehicles going to Madipakkam, Velachery, Thiruvanmiyur, Adyar etc need not take the GST Route- Latest on Tambaram bypass project in Chennai!!

Issues in land acquisition coupled with absence of takers for government bids for 8 months were cited as reasons for the further delay in the Tambaram Eastern Bypass project.

After a long delay of 10 years, work on the 8.8km project linking Rajakilpakkam junction on MBI or Marmalong Bridge- irumbuliyur Road with Perungalathur was revived in July 2022. Point is that a portion was completed and the state Highways dept floated a tender to build the missing links at Rs 48 crores.

It is noteworthy that a recent RTI reply from the department`s CMDP wing showed that the project was getting delayed due to land acquisition. The work proposed at Puthur and  Rajakilpakkam is still at the initial stage only. No contractors were willing to take up the construction work for more than 8 months. This was mentioned by Mr. Dayanad Krishnan, a resident-activist.

He spoke about how he was expecting the Chengalpet  collector to hold meetings with the concerned government departments to resolve the land acquisition issue and settle the pending compensation for the work to resume again. Recently, the issues pertaining to the acquisition of forest lands at Perungalathur have been resolved. Compensation amount is being provided to the Puthur residents and shop owners etc.

In 2011 the 4/6 lane project was announced to decongest the traffic on the busy GST Road particularly at Tambaram. The superb piece of information is that once the project gets completed vehicles heading toward Madipakkam, Velachery, Thiruvanmiyur and Adyar need not take the GST Road route.
