The Vinayagar Chathurthi festival is round the corner!!
Today, 29th of August 2022, the Koyambedu wholesale market was full of retailers and the public as 300 vehicles of commodities arrived here. Sugarcane, banana plant rhizomes and scotch grass or arugam pull were sold to the customers in a jiffy. There were lots of people in the flower market as well as in the fruit market in Koyambedu.
The prices remain stable from the previous years and if there was any demand for the products it would increase tomorrow. This was as per some traders at the market. Almost all the types of flowers and fruits have arrived at the market now for the upcoming Vinagar Chathurthi festival after 2 years of Coronavirus pandemic and this was mentioned by a semi wholesale trader here.
The customers started thronging the Koyambedu market from 7am in the morning and the market saw brisk business after a long time. From several parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, many items arrived at the market.
At the market, velankaai or elephant fruit and pear were sold for Rs 36 per kg and Rs 40 per kg respectively. Twenty pieces of sugarcane were sold for Rs 400. Marigold flowers were sold for Rs 150 per kg and jasmine flowers were sold for Rs 500 per kg. The market witnessed the arrival of crown flowers too.
According to Mr. S. Mookandi, secretary of Koyambedu Flower Merchants Association, the prices did not increase as there was a brisk sale from today morning. For the next 2 days, the prices would be stable.
