The scheme to impose a penalty of Rs. 2000 for smoking in public places is proposed to be implemented shortly!
Though warning boards are kept in all public places that �SMOKING IS BANNED�, MOST OF THE PUBLIC DON�T CARE FOR IT! Further, the habit of smoking has caught up with most of youths today!
In this scenario, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has informed that the governments are spending up to Rs. 76.60 Crores per year to cleanse the tobacco garbage!
It is learnt from several analytical reports that though the Tobacco Product Regulation Act-2003 is followed in Tamil Nadu, the State Government of Tamil Nadu is collecting 82.38 Lakhs of tobacco garbage per year!
In this regard, the official of the Federation of objection to the usage of tobacco, Cyril Alexander, shared;
�The State Government of Tamil Nadu is spending 10% of the total amount of garbage cleaning on the Tobacco garbage! The amount of money must be spent on reducing the pollution caused by tobacco usage from the offenders who use tobacco products!
As such, the system of imposing a penalty of Rs. 2000/- shortly for those who indulge in smoking in public places instead of the present penalty of Rs. 200/-!
As per the tobacco products control Act, permission has been granted to 21 agents including the Public Health Department, Police Department, Local Administrations, and school and college teachers.
As no one acted following the above Act, the usage of tobacco products such as smoking cigarettes, etc., in public places has increased considerably!
Because of these smokers, due to the effect of passive smoking, even those who do not use tobacco products get affected with complaints such as breathing difficulties, cancer, etc.!
So, it is imperative that the State Government of Tamil Nadu MUST take full-fledged efforts to ban the use of tobacco products in Public Places!�
The central government has presented the petition to impose Rs. 2000/- for smoking in public places. As such, it is likely to be implemented shortly! As such, it is subsequently expected that this will be followed in Tamil Nadu as well to take stringent action against those who smoke in Pubic Places!
