From Teynampet to Saidapet on Anna Salai an elevated corridor has been planned. This was revealed by Mr. E.V. Velu, minister for highways yesterday in the Assembly. It must be taken into note that this 4-lane 3.2km corridor would cost an amount of Rs 485 crores.
In the future, the motorists would be able to cross junctions at Eldams Road, SIET College, Cenotaph Road, Nandanam, CIT Nagar third and first main road and Todd Hunter Nagar-Jones Road easily.
The minister spoke about how the upcoming elevated corridor would reduce the traffic congestion and the unnecessary waiting time for the motorists. According to some sources it was clear that DPR was ready. Point is that the arterial road has got many offices, hotels and industries etc and there is a need for an elevated corridor. It is amazing to mention here that the peak hour traffic volume has crossed 18500 vehicles. Since the road was wide, no land acquisition was needed.
It must be noted that the design of the corridor does not warrant any ramps at any of the junctions. To obtain proper sanction from the TN government, tenders would be called for. In a phased manner the construction of the elevated corridor would be carried out so that it does not affect the metro rail tunnels. It was later brought out by a retired officer from highways department that the department had proposed another elevated corridor from Anna Statue to Thousand Lights and one on Poonamallee High Road.
He hinted that the DPRs have been finalized and sent to the government for approval. He concluded that this latest proposal for an elevated corridor would be superb in reducing traffic congestion on the arterial road. It is learnt that Mr. Velu, minister for highways has announced drafting of DPR for an elevated road from light house to Guindy.
