No more pending penalty payment amount for traffic rules violation in Chennai!!
Traffic rules violations have increased in the Chennai city is known. Hereafter, all the motorists would be given alerts from 9am to 7pm over phone calls and SMSes etc from the call centre that has been set up in each police district. It is said that a three member team consisting of a sub inspector and 2 subordinates would be looking into this issue by giving instructions regarding the ways to pay the due money. This was mentioned by additional commissioner, traffic Mr. Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar. In the year 2018, cashless contactless traffic enforcement was introduced by GC Traffic Police to stop the practice of cops receiving bribes from traffic violators and make the collection less tedious for the department.
It is a fact that the traffic police personnel were unable to hold the motorists accountable for multiple challans pending against them. It is noteworthy that earlier the fine collection was done on spot and money was collected from the traffic rules violators. After the cashless system came into effect, the traffic violators collected the penalty challans and went away. Many motorists had multiple challans pending against them and nothing could be done. This was according to the traffic enforcement inspector.
It was then pointed out by another traffic police inspector that a motorist could be caught for violating traffic rules and if he or she was caught on the same violation rules again then a compounded fine could be slapped on them.
It is worth mentioning that just 30% of the traffic rule violators pay the penalty amount and 70% of the penalty amount is still due. Shocking information is that there are some persons who have 50 penalty challans pending against each of them. This was revealed by the additional commissioner for traffic. He threw light on how many persons were not aware of violations that were caught and fined through ANPR cameras and TROZ or Traffic Regulation Observed Zone systems etc.
Truth is that the number of traffic rules violation cases have increased but the collection of penalty amounts from these violators have come down. The additional commissioner of traffic concluded that hereafter if the motorists do not pay traffic violation dues within 7 days even after being reminded by the cops then the case would be transferred to virtual court. Later, summons would be issued by the court for further action against the traffic rules violators.
