How would you feel when you are very near to the war zone and hearing sounds of bomb blasts and vibrations shaking the buildings etc? Scared and frightened right!!
It is now revealed that the Tamil Nadu students studying in various universities in Ukraine have urged the Indian government to take the necessary steps as soon as possible and bring them to India again. According to a third year medical student belonging to Kharkiv National Medical University, everything was calm when he went to sleep. He then mentioned how he was woken up by his friends to witness the Russian strike that took place just 15km from the hostel where they had been staying. He concluded that the vibrations due to the blast were felt. As the airspace was closed, the students felt that they did not have any way to return to India. Some officers belonging to local airports mentioned that services were closed down and no aircraft were available to transport the students.
A student belonging to National Pirogov Memorial Medical University spoke about the air strike that took place at the Vinnytsia railway station that was located around 5km from the hostel. The students were asked not to come out of their hostels. Another medical student studying in Vinnytsia spoke about how after the blasts the Indian students have realised that it was just the beginning of a very tough period for them. Information is that the local residents went to the shops to buy the essential items for them. Those students who were staying outside the university hostels were affected badly. One important issue for many Indians near the war zone now is the lack of drinking water and that is because there is no ground water in Ukraine.
Normally, water dispensaries provide drinking water. It is noteworthy that since the airstrike there has been no water as the water recharge vehicles did not arrive. A litre of water that would normally cost Rs 4 in Indian money is now sold at Rs 22.It is learnt that the students who are staying in the hostels have been asked to go to the basement and those who resign outside were asked to take shelter in the underground metro rail stations etc.
Even in this worst situation, what is making many Indian students feel happy is the uninterrupted power supply and internet. This has helped them to be in touch with their families in India.
