Posted on: 11/May/2021 9:16:19 AM
The roads in Chennai city had many vehicles in the morning and after 12 noon the roads became silent and wore a deserted look. Most residents belonging to Chennai stayed in their houses and the total lockdown went off smoothly yesterday. There were some people who came out and they needed remainders to be inside their houses. All the queries regarding the lockdown would be answered by the Chennai police department and for that the city police have come out with a new helpline number.

In Chennai, most of the flyovers and bridges were closed and the police department had set up 200 check points. After checking the documents only, the police personnel allowed the motorists to go.

The subordinates have been asked by their senior police personnel to book cases only if needed on the first day and issue warnings. Motorists in places like Egmore, Virugambakkam etc have been advised by the police personnel through loudspeakers. The Poonamallee High Road was full of people as they waited to get the important drug Ramdesivir from KMCH. In the morning, milk shops and stores were busy as lots of people were present and the policemen made them stand in queue. There has been a constant monitoring by the police personnel to avoid overcrowding.

Information about the various SOP that must be followed for the next 14 days was issued by DGP Mr. J.K. Tripathy to the subordinates. The shopkeepers were asked to shut down their shops in a polite manner and those vehicles that delivered essential services were allowed to move freely.

The new helpline started by the city police would be there till 24th May. Queries about e-registration, assistance for senior citizens and single women staying alone, transporting oxygen cylinders etc would be answered. The public could contact these numbers 94981 81236/81239.
