Just when it was thought the number of students who are interested in studying engineering courses has increased, here comes an important piece of news.

It is now revealed that more than 45,000 students who were seeking engineering admissions in TN and had enrolled online have opted out even before the counselling began.

The re-shuffling of the TNEA committee has resulted in some issues with the Higher Education Department and due to this Anna University had refused to conduct TNEA or Tamil Nadu Engineering admissions.  Fact is the engineering admissions are being conducted by the DoTE or Directorate of Technical Education for the second successive year now.

A total of 160,834 candidates have applied for the engineering admissions and this was according to a senior official from DoTE. He added that the last date for registration of online applications was on 16th August.

Just 131,436 students have paid the registration fee out of total registration. He added that of the total number of students who have paid registration fees 114,206 students have uploaded their certificates. It must be noted that of the last years 1.32lakhs online applications more than 90% of students have stayed till the beginning of the counselling process.

With more than 45000 students opting out this year, the rank list would be prepared based on the current number of applications. On 7th September, the rank list would be announced and general counselling would start from 17th September. The date on which the general counselling would end would be 15th October.

Important information is atleast one lakh students who would be in the rank list would be called for multi-rounds of counselling. There would be more student facilitation centres in TN and at these centres the certificate verification would be carried out. This was brought out by an official belonging to DoTE.
