The fever camps that are conducted in the Chennai city have been playing an important role in identifying Coronavirus cases and they are conducted for the benefit of the people. Many elders do not understand this.
In this month of August, the number of people attending the fever camps has decreased and this was as per some officials belonging to GCC. It was brought out by data from the Chennai Corporation that in July that fever camps had a daily average of 60 outpatients and in August it got reduced to 35.
Early identification of the symptomatic cases has been possible by the fever camps. This was according to survey staff and zonal officers. Across the 15 zones of GCC, just 15% of elderly persons have attended the fever camps.
A survey staff belonging to Thiruvottiyur zone pointed out that she has been coming across nearly 15 persons above 60 years everyday with co-morbidities and chronic respiratory symptoms.
Most of the attendees at the fever camps were between 20 to 40 years of age whereas the senior citizens avoided visiting the camps. The survey staff explained about how since May month the patients have been monitored and how record has been maintained.
It was later revealed by another survey staff belonging to the Tondiarpet zone that fever camps were arranged for the senior persons with Corona symptoms in the 3 streets they lived. Just 20 people attended these fever camps from these streets.
An official highlighted that the young persons in the families must help the senior or elderly persons to reach the fever camps. Truth is just 15% who have attended the fever camps till now are above 60 years. As against 1800 persons detected in July with influenza like illness, just about 1000 persons are being detected now by GCC.
